Why Does A Bee Sting ?

Only rarely stings ,it only stings if it has been provoked. They basically have a bee rule it is only use this wepon (that nature has provided) if we are trying to kill them. So it is just self defence.

The bee's stinger is a sharp fine barb, this injects a drop of poison through a tube. Did you know it's only the worker bees that stings ?

You may have heard that a bee can only sting once well that is false. What normally happens is that the victim of the bee knocks it of tearing the stinger , this injures the bee soo badly that it dies. But if you care about the bee you will carefully pull the stinger out of yourself.

So it is true abee can stay alive after it stings, if we dont pull it away from the bees body.

Bobsleigh

In extension we have been learning about the olympics. We had to choose one sport and do a little researching about it. I chose bob-sleighing even though they wont be in the olympics this year.

In a bobsled there are four people the one in the back controls the brakes, the two people in the middle lean, and the person in front steers. But however they dont use a steering wheel like a car, but by pulling ropes.

Torch&Motto

Swifter, higher ,stronger the motto which all olympic athletes stand by.The whole point of the olympic games is to give it your all . This motto encourages him or her to just focus and do their best. So actually every olympic athlete is a winner even though they didn’t win.

Months before the games the flame is lit by the sun's rays in olympia greece to keep the tradition going . It is then carried by relay through many cities. Then to reach the place where the olympics will be held.

On the day of the olympics the torch its run around the stadium. It will continue to burn through out the games . But it  is extinguished at the closing ceremony.

Chariot Racing

Did you know chariot racing was the most popular sports in the Ancient Greek Olympics? It was a very dangerous sport, and it was often it was just to show of soldiers' strength. Most of the time they competed in the hippo drome.

The hippodrome was a semi circle. In Greek words hippo ment horse and dromo ment race or course. The hippodrome was similar to the  Roman Circus.

The Olympics

The Olympic rings are very well known ,so is the man who created them( baron  pierre de coubertin) . The olympic rings are interlocked to show that the five continents come together to compete in this tournament. Did you know that there is at least one of the colors in the olympic rings in every country's flags ?

The olympic flag is hoisted at the start of the games to represent  the beginning at the opening ceremony . As the games go on the flag waves in the air ,with the rings which stand out on a white background. At the closing ceremony the flag is lowered to signal the end of the games.
